Plan APIs, webhooks and custom integrations

Workflows can be connected through APIs and webhooks, or a custom integration can be implemented after reviewing the external system and required data. Scope is defined per customer.

Define the goal and data

Write down the outcome required from the integration, which data will move, its direction and the event that starts the flow.

  • Identify the source and destination systems.
  • Document only required fields.
  • Agree on ownership of each system and its data.

Review security and errors

Use dedicated, secure credentials and define how connection failures or missing data will be detected and retried.

  • Never place API keys in public pages or conversations.
  • Use the least permissions possible.
  • Test success, failure and duplicate-event cases.

Test before launch

Test with non-sensitive data or an appropriate environment and review the result with process owners before enabling it.

  • Document test scenarios and results.
  • Identify who will monitor failures.
  • Update documentation when fields or the external system change.
